Abstract

"The purpose of this thesis is the development of a standardized battery module for hybrid vehicles, which also can be used for 48V hybrid vehicles. The main laid on the focus is on the thermal design. First basis for mechanical design is the development of a cooling concept, according to the specified requirements. The heat loss of the applied prismatic battery cells has an impact on the scale of the liquid cooling. Consequently, the battery cell must be analyzed at a test bench to define the heat losses. The favored options for heat dissipation are assessed and classified by an appraisal criterion. This method allows finding the best way for the heat transfer from the battery cells to the coolant. A sufficient powerful geometry for cooling could be developed based on a coupled electrical and thermal simulation of the cell package. The aim is to establish an economically cooling system for a single and serial production. By adjusting the flowrate, the cooling plate can also be used for battery cells with more intense heat loss performance. The remaining components of the battery module can be designed based on the developed cooling system. The most important components are the clamping of the cells at a fixed size, the clamping of the cell packet on the cooling plate and the multi-functional cell grid which ensures the insolation of the cell contacts."
