'Comfort'-Bus) in neuen PKWs verfügt.

Abstract

"The purpose of this thesis was to develop a prototype for a trailer-lighting control module, which has a CAN (Controller Area Network)-Interface for coupling to a lighting-control bus ('Comfort'- Bus) in new passenger cars. Thereby the instructions for switching the automobile's lighting ON/OFF are transmitted over a CAN Bus. The implementation of CAN-protocol in automotive industry, since it was developed in the mid of the 1980s by Bosch GmbH, is based on the fact that CAN is more robust than a USART (Universal Serial Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter)- protocol and less expensive than Ethernet (Local Area Network-protocol). As a power driver for controlling the lamps, smart-power switches which support both resistive and inductive loads are used. They provide a diagnostic feedback, which enables monitoring the operating mode. The power switches are protected against energy spike, electrostatic-discharge, over-temperature and short-circuit by additional protection-circuitries and embedded protection functions. The thesis includes short introductions to the CAN-protocol and to the CAN-analysis system (CANalyzer). In addition, the main milestones of the source code for the used controller C8051F040 (Silicon-Laboratories) and the protection-circuitries for the module's prototype are discussed in details. The results of the first prototype are presented at the end of the thesis."
